About Cirencester

Chedworth is a convenient place to stay for exploring the whole of the Cotswolds and is situated one mile east of the A429 the old Roman road known as the Fosse Way.

It’s a very attractive rural village in the heart of the Cotswolds, which has exceptional views over the Coln Valley; these views can be appreciated by walking the many public footpaths through secluded parts of the village.

Situated within the village is the Church of St. Andrews which has Norman features, a School, Manor House and the Seven Tuns public house. The Roman Villa, discovered in 1864, now owned by the National Trust, lies three miles north-east of the village, where an early central heating system can, amongst other Roman artefacts, be seen.

Cirencester is one of the nearest towns for shopping and sight-seeing, a distance of eight miles from the village. Known as the Capital of the Cotswolds, Cirencester is the largest of the many market towns in the area. Within the town of Cirencester is the Corinium Museum, St. John the Baptist Church, an Arts and Craft Centre with workshops, twice-weekly street market, Friday antique market and every Saturday a craft fair. The town also has parklands in which to wander, these include the Abbey Grounds with its lake and Cirencester Park.
